Messier 101 (The Pinwheel Galaxy)

Messier 101—also called the Pinwheel Galaxy—is one of those cosmic objects that feels almost designed to impress people. It’s a giant spiral galaxy about 21 million light‑years away, and it’s nearly twice the size of the Milky Way. What makes it especially striking is its shape: huge, sweeping arms full of bright newborn stars, glowing gas clouds, and dust that looks like a cosmic whirlpool.

Kelvin-Helmholtz clouds

These rare wavelike clouds form when two air currents run by each other in the same direction but at slightly different speeds. The resulting turbulence forms these wave crest clouds that only remain for up to 5 minutes before disappearing.

The Moon

Earths closest neighbor, the moon, is a large rocky celestial object that is roughly one fourth the size of earth. Its gravitational pull acts on the earth as it moves, controlling the tides, the rotational speed and tilt of the earth. So far this is the only celestial object humans have ever visited in person.

Behind the lens

I started my passion of photography when I was just 14. My mom had bought a Canon ESO t6 Rebel, in hopes of using it. However, she quickly realized she could not use it because she, ironically, was unable to close only one eye to look through the view finder. But instead of giving it away, she gave it to me. I began learning how use the settings and watching tutorials. After only 3 months of using, it I had learned how to photograph the moon, the ocean, northern lights, clouds and even the milky way.
